Options for Joining Number 8 Workers Union
Welcome to our joining information page.
Number 8 Workers’ Union supports workers all over New Zealand and in every type of workplace. We are here to support workers with their workplace and employment problems through to resolution.
Unlike other unions, we are a union that will provide assistance with existing workplace issues or disputes but conditions do apply as described below.
Some examples of workplace issues could include:
Disciplinary letters, emails and other communications
Attendance at investigation or disciplinary meetings
Redundancy and exit package discussions
Workplace harassment, sexual harassment or bullying
Mediations relating to workplace problems
Unsafe workplaces – machinery, processes

Please note:
With all of our membership options, you are required to be a minimum of one quarter paid in advance at all times throughout your membership.
To resign from N8WUNZ, one month’s written and paid notice is required plus payment of any arrears.
New members – Set up an automatic payment as we do not process direct debits. Clearly mark your payments with your name
Standard Membership:
This membership is for people who require the reassurance and support of N8WUNZ membership but do not currently require urgent assistance. Think of this as an insurance policy for your employment.
For members who DO NOT require urgent assistance –
Fees upon joining for full and part-time workers and those on ACC::
26 weeks (6 months) minimum joining amount $156
52 weeks (Yearly) $312
Paying Quarterly
By paying the initial 26 weeks of fees upfront you will remain one quarter in advance at all times. You will then be invoiced every 13 weeks there after.
Paying Yearly
You are also welcome to pay yearly, in which case you will be invoiced at 39 weeks (9 months) for the next yearly 52 weeks. This ensures you remain a quarter in advance throughout your membership.

If you require urgent assistance within 6 months of joining, the Initial Assessment and/or Urgent Assessment fees will apply (see below).
Please Note: The Initial Assessment fee of $250 will still apply but there will be a reduction to $400 for the Urgent Assistance fee.
Urgent Assistance fees:
Initial Assessment fee –
For one of our employment advocates to be able to assess your employment issue, N8WUNZ requires a payment of $250.
This assessment includes a review of your relevant files and documents followed by a half hour phone call with one of our employment advocates. This will enable us to assess your employment issue, then we will advise if we can provide further assistance.
Urgent Assistance fee
If we can assist with your issue, an Urgent Assistance Advocacy fee of $650 becomes payable. This includes 6 months Union membership.

Covid Vaccine Mandate Terminations
If your employment was terminated in 2021/2022 due to a requirement to be vaccinated, our advocates are here to help you.
We have been taking Personal Grievance and Breach of Contract claims since 2022 and are the only union to have done so!
We have had a large number of successes including cases which have settled and others which have been successful in the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court – see our website.
We are now focused on taking Breach of Contract claims which can be filed up to 6 years from the date of your termination. If you wish to take a Breach of Contract claim you may join N8WUNZ at the following rates:
Two-Year Membership Upfront Fee
Please Note: if you are on ACC this is regarded as “Waged”.
2 Years waged $624
2 Years unwaged $312
13 weeks before the end of the 2 years, you will be invoiced quarterly from then on. You are also welcome to pay yearly at that point if you wish. Please advise if you wish to change payment frequency.
You will be required to:

Fill in our Terms of Engagement and Authority to Act form. These will be emailed to you upon contact.
Pay the 2 years membership fee which is payable upon joining and is according to your employment status.
The Process when you join
Once you fill in the joining form and have paid the relevant fee, please contact our admin team at in**@*********rg.nz. Our admin team will advise and support you through the next steps in the process.
Generally the process will involve providing all the relevant documents so we can prepare your filing. After this your matter may be directed to mediation. Our advocates would attend mediation with you and attempt a resolution. If mediation is unsuccessful the matter can progress into the Employment Relations Authority for investigation. N8WUNZ will support you through every step of this process.
