At Number 8 Union, when it comes to supporting our members,

We go ALL IN….

Our Commitment

The majority of our members have been grappling with difficult and stressful employment issues, especially since the mandate rollout. Since our inception in early 2022, N8 has advocated for hundreds of workers across New Zealand. The demand for the assistance our advocates provide is immense, particularly during and after the COVID mandate situation, and this need continues to be significant.

Our advocates are deeply committed to providing members with the best possible support, putting in hundreds of hours of work per member to achieve the best outcomes. If members were to pay an employment lawyer, these services could cost around $450 per hour. The value that N8 offers is truly unmatched.

N8 – 100% Member-Focused

Unlike other NZ unions, Number 8 doesn’t spend member funds on holiday homes, fine art collections, property investments, or long, expensive member-funded lunches, seminars, and trips. Every cent of member fees goes directly back into supporting member cases.

Our Team

Number 8’s streamlined and highly productive team has been working tirelessly since the Union’s inception over two years ago. Despite the long hours, our advocates absolutely love what they do. Justice needs to be served, and N8 is here to make sure it is!

The SoP Formation Process

The advocacy process begins with discussions with the member to understand their situation and determine how N8 can assist most effectively. Members send us their files, including employment documents, letters, audio files, affidavits, company policies, and government documents.

These files become part of the evidence used in the formation of their case’s legal documents and are combined with the strongest legal arguments, crafted by our advocates from case law and their years of experience. This forms the Statement of Problem (SoP), the main document in the Personal Grievance, Breach of Contract process, and other case types.

The SoP and related documents are then filed with the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) to initiate mediations, attend mediations, negotiate settlements, and, if necessary, proceed to the Employment Court.

Attention to detail and a deep understanding of legal principles are absolutely key to achieving the best result for our members. It can be incredibly complex and time-consuming, but Number 8 Advocates are extremely passionate about their work.

An Insurance Policy

Being a Number 8 member offers a powerful form of protection. If you are currently happy in your employment with no issues, consider your membership as an insurance policy for the future. Should anything arise in your workplace, whether you need immediate help or just a review of your employment contract, we are here for you.

Alternatively, your membership supports Number 8 Advocates in their work, helping members who may be facing employment challenges and financial difficulties.

Free Education and News Updates

N8 provides free education and news updates through our popular N8 Zooms, all of which are available on our N8WUNZ Rumble channel. We offer hundreds of sessions filled with valuable information, all available at no cost to our wise Number 8 community.

Fee Increase

Unfortunately, due to the current economic climate and increasing costs, we are forced to raise our fees to continue providing the high-value advocacy that members currently receive and to build our advocacy team.

As of 20th September 2024, fees will be:

Waged: $6 per week

Payment Frequency options
Waged: $78 per quarter | $312 per year

Unwaged: $3 per week

Payment frequency options
Unwaged: $39 per quarter | $156 per year

PLEASE DO NOT PAY WEEKLY. PAY USING ONE OF THE ABOVE PAYMENT FREQUENCIES.

All fees invoiced prior to 20th September 2024 will remain at the existing rates with the next invoice being at the new fee rate.

To help minimise the administrative burden of this price increase, please update your automatic payment upon receiving this update and please consider using one of the payment frequencies above to further assist our small admin team.

Sending out reminder invoices and emails is incredibly time-consuming—time that we would rather spend helping members with their cases and employment issues.

We hope this update helps explain a bit about what we do and underscores the importance of N8’s work.

Thank you to all of you who have supported us so generously over the last two years. We look forward to continuing to serve you in the future.
